TweetDeck v0.21.5

Since this is a point release, rather than a full new version, it contains mainly minor functionality updates and bug fixes but there are one or two interesting new features:

  • you can now twitter to a global audience with the ability to translate tweets you've received and written into most languages
  • for those interested in monitoring stock information and chatter you can now turn your TweetDeck into a "StockTwits terminal" with the introduction of 5 StockTwits columns
  • get your tweets out to those who are not on twitter by emailing them from TweetDeck
  • for those times when I need to communicate something to all the open TweetDecks there is now a built-in messaging system
Rather than explaining everything in great detail, below is a video walkthrough of the main functionality. There is a full changelog at the bottom of this post.

Your TweetDeck will auto-update when the release is available or you can get it directly from here if you already have AIR installed:

I've also been working on the next full release which should be ready soon and is a real upgrade to the existing version with particular emphasis on memory usage, multiple accounts & synchronisation amongst a whole host of other new features.

If you have any comments or questions please do let me know.

For me the auto update function failed. So is there any other way to run the update manually?

I think functionality could be improved by actually displaying the excerpts of the tweets in, rather than showing just the number of tweets in.

Also I'd be more than happy to illustrate a new icon that isn't so eye stingy :P

Upon installing, it told me that the TweetDeck AIR file contained an error, and thus I am unable to install to the latest version.

I have the same problem Jeff addressed. I can't install a new version of Tweetdeck via the website either. Adobe AIR pops up a message saying there is a problem with the application. I'm using Vista and I thus cannot just open the .AIR file.

I get 'Error# 1' trying to install it, as I did with the last version. Other AIR apps install and run fine (e.g. DestroyTwitter, Twhirl). I'm running Ubuntu Hardy, AIR 1.5.

What does that error mean?

Thanks.

Be great to be able to run tweetdeck on fluxbox instead of having to use gnome or kde.

Have a question.....I"m trying to create a group, but not all of the people who I am following are showing up. Is this a common problem?

FYI, there is a bug with the new 0.21.5b version. It involves column filtering. I uploaded a screenshot to http://www.flickr.com/photos/ari-herzog/3275385209/

Can't install the update. Get an error "This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance."

If you're adding multiple account handling can you make it so that tweets to all accounts can appear in the single column view and the user can select the background colour of the tweet to differentiate between accounts.

New to Twitter - and this app has helped a LOT. Love it.

Looking forward to the new version!Hoping "synchronisation" means syncing between TweetDecks on different machines. Would also love to see a portable version, if that's possible with Air apps. Not sure.

Either way would be great for many of us that work with two or more computers.

Can't wait.

I love tweetdeck and it just adds heaps of value to the twitter service. Thank you!

Unfortunately I have a small problem. At seemingly random intervals, but often enough to be annoying, the application closes resulting in a "the app has closed unexpectedly" dialog.

I am running 0.21.5b on a 2008 Macbook, but I have had this problem with previous versions as well.

Can I suggest you look at Jing (or Jing Pro $14.95/yr) for your videocasts. Waaay clearer than Vimeo. Here's a blog that discusses it.
http://www.idratherbewriting.com/2009/02/09/hd-quality-screencasts-embedded-in-your-blog/

Scroll down half the page to see what it does, then you can follow the links.

I have zero, ZIP to do with Jing or TechSmith. I dont know anyone connected with the company.

you write: Fixed duplicate posts in group columns
but I see the same posts in "All Friends" and the Group I put a friend in. If I put a friend in a Group, shouldn't that friend's posts ONLY appear in that Group?

My Tweetdeck insists on keeping names in the "Group edit" view even for accounts I've unfollowed ages ago. It'd really be great if those names disappeared upon unfollowing so they don't gum up the works in managing groups.

I've been using TweetDeck and really love it for organizing my various feeds. Now, I want it to do everything. At the least I wish I could schedule my out-going tweets throughout the day without going to another app. Thanks for continuing to upgrade this great app.

I've installed this on Kubuntu 8.04, with KDE 4.x installed. However, TweetDeck doesn't recognize the libraries for KDE, and gives an error about unsupported desktop manager. If I use the shortcut on my desktop, the window opens, the toolbar is there, but nothing else is there (and I can't get into the settings or anything to configure TweetDeck).

Hopefully this will be updated soon to include the KDE 4.x libraries.

Have a great day:)
Patrick.

I am having a problem that seems common enough but haven't found a solution anyplace. My picture vanished and I don't know how to get it back. It is visible at Twitter. Please let me know what to do! Thanks!
