TweetDeck For iPhone Gets A New-Year Update

Happy New Year TweetDeckers!  We hope you all had a great festive season and that 2010 is off to a good start for you.

We are kicking our new year off in fine form with a feature-packed update to the TweetDeck iPhone app, which is available now from the App Store.

v.1.3 of TweetDeck for the iPhone now gets up to speed with the desktop version in some key areas such as Lists and Retweets. We have also introduced geo-coding of tweets using your iPhone's GPS.

Keep up with your favourite Twitter Lists

You can now take your Twitter Lists with you wherever you go by adding columns to your TweetDeck for iPhone.

Mobile retweets - whichever way you prefer

Just like in the desktop client, you can choose which method you want to use each time you retweet. New-style or old, its up to you. TweetDeck will remember your preference, but you can change it with a touch each time you RT.

Location, location, location

Want to show where in the world you are right now? Enable geo-tagging and your tweets will be automatically tagged with your current location from the GPS in your iPhone.

Want to see where your friend is tweeting from? Check out the inline map in the tweet detail screen.

Where is everybody?

And the jewel in the geo-location crown is the super-cool "View on Map" feature. This will take all the geo-coded tweets from the column you choose and plot them on a map. You can then see in an instant where all your Twitter friends are at the moment and can zoom in for more details.

Never be stuck for company again! Simply fire up your TweetDeck, see who's nearby and get in touch.

And more...

There have also been lots of fixes and tweaks "under the hood", including a fix for the issue that was affecting a lot of users when trying to add their Facebook account.

The future

2010 is going to be a huge year for us here at TweetDeck, and for our mobile offerings in particular.

Expect to see lots of big news over the next few months as we open up a whole new chapter in our mobile strategy, taking our approach of "Be the best, not just the first" into some very exciting areas.

So before you ask....chances are, we're coming to your phone soon!

TweetDeck is the one app I really miss since moving to Android. Even moreso since this update introduces geolocation.

Any chances you'll be adding push for mentions and DMs?

I love the way that TweetDeck handles Twitter, even better than Twitter itself. But please support Read It Later or Instapaper for later reading. It makes life so easy to save a link and read it later.

juanramollino: We'd certainly like to add Push in a future release

It bricks my phone now :( When using TweetDeck to reply/post to FaceBook and a Boxcar push notification is delivered, the keyboard stays in the way of the close/view options of the notification and I can't view what I'm writing or press 'send' behind the notification. Who's to blame?

Thomas, is this just when adding a comment to a Facebook update?

I see there is still no way to delete your tweets. That is the one feature that is stopping Tweetdeck being the only client i use.

I see a lot of features are still not included. What about being able to expand tweets from the "Recent Tweets" screen? Why you limited that is beyond me.

Also, I'd love a way to copy the link of a website when visiting it, i hate to exit to safari just to change the shortened one to something non-ow.ly (a long press to the top of the screen would do the trick..)

Tweets being marked read/seen after taping on them is a feature I've been missing since day 1. Marking all seen is ok, but not the most elegant solution.

Also, add me to the list of those waiting for a Read It Later option. If the iPhone had multitasking I wouldn't care, but as of now RIL is needed in this kind of apps.

Simple Search is still missing, but even the desktop version has none, so i won't bother to ask.

PLEASE TweetDeck, implement these features, these are the kind of thing that prevent users from using your app, not having "geotagging" or a cute map was a minor issue compared to this.

That's it, hope to see some kind of update soon.. 1.3 really isn't what i expected :(

After playing a bit with the new version, I found out that it is not possible to edit lists. It would be nice to add someone to your lists, not only to your groups, as well as being able to see/follow someone's lists from their profile.
Thank you for this great product!

With the new "Lists" feature, a new quirk is occurring: For example, I'll see 24 new tweets, but when I click 'Mark As Seen', 12 will remain in the Updates. In reality, only 12 tweets were new, since the same 12 are also in the Lists. A tiny bit annoying...

You are being irresponsible. I just tried the desktop version of TweetDeck, and found that it remembers my password (most likely saves it to disk) *without* asking permission for it first; and then it does provide any way to make it forget that password because "the last account can't be removed". Is that password going to stay saved on disk somewhere even if I uninstall the program? This is just unacceptable.

What I meant was that "it does NOT provide any way to make it forget the password" of course.

Greetings!
Fisrt of all great software!
I'm using Vista x64 and latest tweetdeck and i can not seem to read any unicode characters.
Any post in Russain or Bulgarian language is displayed only as blank spaces.
Please take time to fix this and let this be my favorite twitter/fb app.
I already wrote a review about it and this is the only downside i found.
Thanks for your time.

The ability to update Facebook fan pages is huge and I can't believe it is not even 'imminent' for the iPhone app; especially since Tweetdeck already has it in the desktop version. Please add this ASAP!!!

As a new iphone user I can't believe there is no way to update FB pages. I use the phone to keep my social media strategies going when I'm away from the office. Not being able to update my fan page is a major pain. Please fix ASAP!

Let me know if you ever develop a portable non-adobe air version for Windows. Adobe air is just too sluggish and too much of a memory hog. I will live with Hootsuite for now I guess. Tweetdeck is a great app though...just too layered.
