TweetDeck for iPhone

Thanks for all the amazing feedback about TweetDeck for iPhone we’re just as excited to be able to use TweetDeck on the move as you are.

If you already use TweetDeck on the desktop the easiest way to get started is to download the new desktop version and register for a TweetDeck account.  This will sync all your existing information including columns and groups to the TweetDeck server.  Then all you need do is download TweetDeck for iPhone for free from the Apple App Store and enter your TweetDeck account details and you’ll be presented with a list of columns you can import and view on your iPhone. Magic, all your columns are synced and ready to go.

You can use all your favourite TweetDeck features on the iPhone: tweet, create groups, save searches, shorten URLs, share photos, follow and unfollow people and much more.  There’s also a few new features we think you’re going to love:
•    Manage multiple Twitter accounts with no need to switch between accounts.
•    Notifications make it simple to see what’s new as it arrives so you never miss an important @reply or direct message again.  Click the notification message to be taken directly to the column you want to see.
•    Tweet your location or add your location to your Twitter profile.
•    And when you need to refresh the content simply shake your iPhone to update.
Visit our iPhone FAQs to find out more about how to use these features and more on your iPhone.

This is our debut on iPhone so watch this space as we’ll be continually improving going forward.  And if you don’t have an iPhone you can still watch the video to see what all the fuss is about.

Would love to see a built in 'trending' sort of column (as you call them). I always like to take a quick look to see what is bubbling to the top!

Tweetdeck iPhone has quickly become my go to iPhone Twitter app. It's sleek, quick, and intuitive. Amazing job!

P.S. Here's my review of Tweetdeck on the iPhone.

Will there be a landscape view in future updates? It would seem logical since Tweetdeck is all about the HORIZONTAL spread of columns. But my main difficulty (probably related) is the small font--I can't read it. I get it that you have to script somewhere to get all that information on one page, but wouldn't landscape offer a larger font?

I mean, "scrimp" not "script"

I second Bill's suggestion for landscape mode. Being able to flip between the two would be awesome.

TweetDeck, by far, is the most aesthetically pleasing iPhone app. If features like trends, 'nearby' tweets, and maybe even push notification TD would be #1 all they way.

The iphone app looks great however I cannot figure out how to sync and I have read all the help page stuff and watched the video, which If it had some audio and went a bit slower would probably be quite informative as it is it is just a tease and pretty useless. I love tweetdeck and do not consider myself computer challanged, please provide some useful documentation.

iPhone app does not like dashes in email addresses (for some reason called "username" on iPhone and "email address" on desktop version).

Hence, I can verify my TweetDeck account on desktop version, but cannot on iPhone app.

Probably just a simple bug that checks for special characters on iPhone app, but not on desktop version.

Amazing program that actually got me to download the desktop version as well. Would love to see a safari bookmarklet for the iphone. And Instapaper integration would rock.

Across the board, for both the iPhone and the desktop client, I would like to see the ability to save draft tweets. Other than those small issues, this is probably the best twitter client out there. Great work.

Is it possible to delete (erase) all the viewed tweets in a column for the iphone app? Like you can do on the desktop client?

Would be awesome if you could...and that it could synch with the desktop client so that you don't need to re-read tweets when you get back to your desktop.

Still a little buggy but great potential. One thing missing (that only Twitterfon) seems to have is opening up your friends timeline where you last left off. Would be great if you could incorporate that in Tweetdeck instead of opening up at the latest tweet.

Yes, crashing all the time for me too. And not sure why only the last 2 hours of tweets get updated? Annoying. Great sophisticated features but lacking some basic ones like auto-scroll to unread which would save loads of time. Been bit disappointed all up.

Crashing way too much

also very frustrating that you cannot select a tweet when accessing via a users "Recent Tweets". In my view this is a major bug and potential deal breaker. Until this one is fixed Tweetie is still my go to app for Twitter on the iPhone.

All that being said the features and layout are great and this is certainly headed in the right direction.

First of all, I like the iPhone Tweetdeck UI in general but I do have some things I would like to see added in a future release of the iPhone app. I've been using the desktop app for a good while. I've mostly been a Twitterfon user, so some of the things in that app would be great to include.

- Automatically go to the first unread tweet.
- Difficult to see the color difference between read and unread in the sun (especially with glasses on). Maybe use a lighter grey for unread?
- Inline name and url clicking without having to open to the Tweet details
- In the new Tweet dialog, give me an option to select a follower's name.
- With Scott above, I have noticed the app can be unstable at times - it seems to be even more unstable when I have it open and I get a Lotus Notes push mail notification (guess the same would be with ActiveSync accounts in general).

Thanks again for the great app, and looking forward to the next release!

Very nice - TweetDeck has now replaced TwitterFon as my goto app on the iPhone, but I miss how TwitterFon let's me read unread Tweets in order. TweetDeck always takes me to the latest, and I have to scroll back to see what I missed.

On the desktop, I used to use TweetDeck exclusively, then tried Tweetie and use that more than anything. I guess it's a back and forth between single column VS multiple columns.

So, TweetDeck on iPhone FTW!

I would 100% agree with everything "cwhisonant" said above. I am also a twitterfon pro user and would consider switching if those items were changed. Also really like the fact that twitterfon saves the tweet I am writing until I trash it. Lets me look up a word I might not know how to spell or if busy jump back to it in a few seconds. With tweet deck the second you jump away your tweet is gone. I will be waiting for the next update to even consider switching.

I switched from TwitterFon to TweetDeck on the iPhone. And then I downloaded my first Twitter app for the desktop - you guessed it! Tweetdeck! :)

TweetDeck has allowed me to harness the power of Twitter and I'm loving it. I never found Twitter that useful before TweetDeck.

That being said, I'd like to add to previous requests for the following features:
- Push notifications
- Landscape view
- Go to last unread tweet

I'd also like to submit two bug reports:
- Crashes frequently
- Not updating properly (I missing hours of tweets!)

I've stopped using TweetDeck for the iPhone because:
* Frequent crashes, aforementioned by others.
* When I reach the end of the updates it won't load any more of them.
* Groups are a fine idea except they don't work. I can't find all the available members that I'm following so I can't add the people I want to add to the group I've made. This is a problem in the desktop version as well, in that sometimes all the people I follow are listed, sometimes they aren't. Multiple refreshes eventually lists everyone but this tactic never fixed it with the iPhone version.
* Won't start at the last read update.
* Lack of customization of interface (specifically color).

I've gone back to using Tweetie. While I wish it had groups, it addresses everything else listed above.

I love TweetDeck for the iPhone, but sadly, my columns won't sync, everytime I open up the app it gives me an error message that says that my phone's time is not within an acceptable range (+/- 15 minutes of server time), and prompts me to change it to use the TweetDeck server features. My phone's time is correct, so I don't wanna change it for an app to work. Besides from that (and the constant crashes) I still use it as my daily twitter client, just for the convenience of having my tweets sorted into columns.
I hope this bugs get ironed out in the next update so I can fully enjoy it. :)

I've been an avid Tweetie user until now and thought I would try Tweetdeck. Really digging it! So far the only things that keep me on Tweetie are:
1. the ability to delete my tweets
2. Tweetie remembers what I have typed in the tweet box so that way if I start a tweet and then it doesn't go through due to server issues, or if I go to another program or answer a call or something, then it retains everything I've typed in the tweet box so I can resend it or resume finishing it.

TD, I used to love you until this most recent update for the desktop. After days of receiving an error message after trying to reinstall, it finally installed at work. I used to be the platform I used to cover our work account. After installing, I decided to try to add another account. Guess what? I had no idea how to work it. No links seemed to immediately provide help for me to navigate the changes. I noticed there were two names above the text zone but couldn't figure out how to switch accounts so I could see my followers.I tried to make sure my personal acct. button was NOT highlighted as I "tweeted" from our work account.

But as you may have guessed, 2 tweets accidentally went out under both work acct. & personal one AND they were RT of my boss's tweet. Awesome! Now he's following my personal account which I had preferred to remain secret. Great job!

I immediately switched to Seesmic desktop. I wished this hadn't happened but now stuck with my boss following my personal account. But I will not be fooling any more with buggy TweetDeck.

I love the TweetDeck for iPhone's functionality, but there is one glaring omission that keeps it from being my default Twitter client: lack of a landscape-style keyboard. It's much easier to type on my iPhone using landscape, and until TweetDeck incorporates this feature, I'll primarily use another software for my tweeting. Come on, guys! Make it happen!

@Sierra: Yes, this is annoying behavior, but you can get around the special characters problem by skipping the tweetdeck account verification during the initial setup process (hit "skip this step") and then manually verifying the account from the settings page.

I downloaded TweetDeck as soon as it was available. I love it but I am also hating it. A few things..

- When I open the app and I touch anywhere on the screen before it has finished loading it crashes every time.
- Even if I am connected to the fastest wi-fi or have full 3G servie I always get a "no/slow Internet" pop up. Frustrating.
- Not all of my friends or followers are in the list.
- Whenenver I am viewing a friend's recent tweets I am unable to view their TweetDetail. I can't even click on it.
- If I am trying to @mention friends in a tweet I really miss the "friends list" that many other Twitter apps have.
- Whenever DMing a friend, the top still says "New Tweet," and that might confuse some people--I know it says the whole "D username," but it would still be smart to change it to say "New DM" or something.
- Random crash attacks. Gives apps a bad rep haha. I was showing a friend how awesome the iPhone is, I opened the tweetdeck app and was showing him around it and it CRASHED. I was like, "Most apps don't crash! I promise! It is new!"
- Scroll to first unread would be freaking great.
- When I accidentally tilt my phone sideways it completely freaks out. The notifications look fine sideways--almost like it is programmed to have a landscape setting, but my columns end up vertical and horizontal at the same time.
- A lot of times I will read tweets and when I visit the app again later it either lost those tweets or it thinks I haven't read it yet.

I think that's all my frustration, when these things are fixed I will be ecstatic.

Totally agree with many comments to date, especially those of cwhsinot. I really want to love Tweetdeck on the iPhone but it is just way too buggy. It is guaranteed to crash on every use. Need to seriously debug this app and add features of other Twitter apps...eg Twitterfon. Loading to the most recent tweet instead of the last unread is no good 'cos then when scroll down to last unread, often crashes and I always want to start at the last unread. Same goes for the Desktop client actually which should also start at last unread as do other desktop clients such as Tweetie.

There is also no option to email a Tweet to a friend that most other apps have. Yes, you don't want to be the same as most other apps but face it, its all about the UI that really differentiates all these Twitter apps otherwise we would all just use Twitter instead!

So, add the missing features and debug this sucker! Oh, while you're at it, in addition to the all important start at last unread Tweet, would be nice if the sync feature also synced what you last read...I bounce back between iPhone and two desktops running Tweetdeck. I end up relying on Twitterfon to help me find which my last unread tweet was, then use Tweetdeck to find it.

I really want to love TweetDeck for the iPhone as I love it on my PC, but I have issue with it. For example, I do not receive all tweets from followers and it makes it hard to follow threads. Even after hitting refresh, which counts down my api, I still do not get them all. If I close the app out and reopen it, I can sometimes get missing tweets. Then, usually it won't load some previously read tweets. This major flaw is very frustrating as I miss tweets from my tweeps. I don't have this issue with Twitterfon.

Suggestions:

Upon opening, have app autoscroll to first unread tweet.

Allow it to save typed text. For example, if I start typing a tweet , but want to add a link later, it would be nice to close the app, find a link, copy it, and return to the app to paste it without retyping tweet.

As with the PC, a way to spell check would be nice , but may currently be impossible on the iPhone. But, not big deal for me.

If you could fix the issue and add my suggestions, TweetDeck would be my only Twitter app.
