Get in Sync

Sync has been one of the most popular feature requests among TweetDeck users for quite some time.  We’re a friendly bunch here in TweetDeck and we like to keep you guys happy.  That’s why the new version of TweetDeck lets you automatically sync all your columns and groups across any computer or iPhone.

You’ll be able to access all your TweetDeck information no matter where you are and get up and running on any computer, Windows, Mac, Linux, or even iPhone in a matter of minutes without creating everything all over again. We’ll also safely store your information so you’ll never lose your settings if your computer crashes or you delete a group by mistake.

Plus TweetDeck keeps working in the background so whenever you change a group or add a new column it’s updated and available on all your computers and your iPhone. Just like magic.

So how do you do it?  First things first, you need to download the new version of TweetDeck and register for a TweetDeck account.  All your existing columns and groups will then be imported and safely stored in the TweetDeck cloud.

Next, download the new version to all of the other computers you use TweetDeck on and link these computers to your existing TweetDeck account by clicking on 'Settings', 'Sync' and then entering your TweetDeck account information and clicking on 'Verify Account'.

If you’d like more help with syncing your TweetDeck information read our FAQs here.

Huge win, sync is such a great addition to an already fabulous product.

I am sure I speak for more than a few people when I say, on behalf of the Tweetdeck community, keep up the good work!

I've noticed that this isn't really working for me, as I have two computers that I run TD on and neither one seem to be aware of the fact although I've made sure both are 'in sync'. Not sure if this is related but I have the same DM notification pop up for one message and it's been read on both systems. Thanks! @richwaz

I've noticed that this doesn't work for groups ro columns that I had set up *before* the new upgrade. When I deleted the columns form my desktop and then added them again, they then sync'd with my iPhone. HTH.

A shame it won't sync if set up on the iPhone first though - I did this as I was to be away from either Mac for a while expecting it to sync the Macs when I was able to get to them, but no such luck.

iPhone changes should sync back to computers too, then it'd be a great feature.

Is there any way to reset or delete my account? I've been having nothing but problems since I upgraded to version 0.26.1 & 0.26.2. I stopped using sync, but even then Tweetdeck is showing strange behaviour:

- When configuring an existing or new group, some people I'm following aren't visible in the list. If I type their name in the filter, then choose follow at the bottom, they will show up in the list not once, but 3 to 4 times, with all instances checked.

- When trying to assign people in the All Friends group to a specific group, Tweetdeck sometimes thinks I'm not following them and tries to follow them anyway (which returns an error). These are people I've been following for days or months!

If you need any more information, I'm on Twitter (@kspeeckaert)

Could you fix it so that it doesn't mark all posts as "unseen" when it starts up, despite having been marked as "seen" before it closes.

That, and a clearer identification of unseen posts (such as changing the background colour) would make TweetDeck much more usable.

Awesome! I can't wait to try this! The iPhone has just been adding columns but not deleting ones I've deleted on my desktop, so it sounds like this is the answer!

One request: Could you put more keyboard support/shortcuts in TweetDeck eventually? What I mean is, right now if I follow someone I must then select what account to follow with and hit okay all with the mouse. Not a big issue, but I'm used to tabbing around and doing things with keyboard, and I know many others are too.

Thanks for the awesome app!

I love this idea, and I think its great. However, the vast majority of the time all of members of my groups are out of sync between my 3 pcs and iPhone. Any thoughts on how to solve this? and is there a way to destroy/ reset an account. Maybe starting fresh would help.

Hey I was downloading v2 yesterday; it got screwed up and I could only fix it by removong Adobe Air and TweetDeck from my computer. When I loaded the new TweetDeck all my settings had been saved. Yay. It works. Just has a weird way of upgrading.

When you mention "new version" in the blog, please include the number. I'm having problems with 0.26.2, know there's a new one coming up, and it's frustrating to have to attempt dowloading fro the site just to be told by Adobe Air that it's exactly the same version I already have.

You do great work, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next version to see if it corrects this bug I have, my Twitter experience has pretty much died when I can't use TweetDeck, so this is really the only thing: please write the version's number...

Some notes on my Tweetdeck experience. I am using an iPod Touch 2nd Gen and an XP desktop running TweetDeck ver .26.2. My iPod touch is running 2.2.1 OS and I am not planning to upgrade to 3.0 (until it's free).

On the desktop, TweetDeck is easy to use. I would like to move (or remove or have the opportunity to do so) the Clear All icon which I rarely use. I have hit this once or twice by accident and there is no way to undo this.

I would also like to have a way to mark a Tweet as "unseen" if I change my mind.

On my iPod, I would like a way to hide seen Tweets. Also, when that's done, a way to sync anything I mark as seen from my iPod to my computer and the reverse. Since I can't hide seen tweets on my iPod, TweetDeck is nearly useless on it.

Thanks for listening.

I haven't been able to make the new version work. First, none of my columns for @replies, DM's or groups showed any tweets. I deleted them as a last resort after uninstalling and reinstalling TD. Now I can't add any columns back in. I click on the button to add a column, select the account, then nothing happens. Desperately need help. I had to switch to Twirl b/c I couldn't get it to work. Want my TD and columns back, but at this point waiting for next release to try again unless you can help :(

I don't get why syncing columns is so important. I'd rather see tweets that I read on my iPhone sync with my computer so I don't have to scroll around to see where I left off. And I wish TweetDeck would pick up where it left off when I check in again, starting with the oldest tweet. The constant scrolling and wondering what I've seen and what I haven't seen is a real drag.

Love the sync feature, but I think it still needs some work. Seconding the request of syncing previously read/cleared tweets between platforms.

I set up my account on my Mac with Tweetdeck and grouped everyone. Not everyone showed up in the list who I follow, so I add them to a column when they tweet and aren't cleared when I clear my columns. I then synced my iPhone with my account. Since then I've moved people between columns and the phone is still putting them the way they were originally. Then TD puts them in both columns (the one I moved them to and the original one). Would love to see that fixed.

Definitely on the right track, though!

I have read so much good thing about TweetDeck. However, when I tried to access your web site to download the app, the browser just hanged with lots of clicking noises. So does TweetDeck supports Windows XP running IE6 broswer? If not, is there an alternative route to download the software?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

@substring ~ Why, why, WHY are you still using IE6? It's horribly out-of-date! Upgrade to IE8 or--better still--rid yourself of IE completely and download a better browser (Firefox, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome). *nods* Seriously. IE, in my not-very-humble opinion, is RUBBISH.

@shellygrrl, the laptop that I tweet on is also for work. Some of the application on this laptop DO NOT support IE8. Frankly, I was a software developer with a commercial software company before. Every time when we introduce a new release of our software, we ALWAYS make sure it is backward compatible. This is almost a CARDINAL RULE in the software industry. I don't know why TweetDeck ignores this.

I sent them a tweet last week and got no response. I posted message here and got no response. It is not cool at all.

The software industry is highly competitive and it is dog eats dog out there (I know as I I have been there). People can always leave and go to your competitors. You really have to go ABOVE AND BEYOND to win customers over. TweetDeck does not seem to understand this which is rather sad.

Syncing still does not work for me (I have 0.26.3). I have two different sets of columns at home and work, and no amount of re-entering the tweetdeck account info will sync them up. It says verified each time - but there's no way to get it to merge the two sets of columns.

Syncing does not work very good. I have Ubuntu, XP and iPhone. I just cant get the columns/groups to sync. Deleted groups still seem to be on server, so I cant add new ones with same name, but they wont appear in Tweetdeck. I think Ubuntu is the biggest issue.

Doesn't work for me either.

I am registered and verified with an account on the Mac desktop version. On my iPhone, every time I try and enter the same account details I get an error that the time on my iPhone is more than 15 minutes adrift of the TweetDeck servers and it asks me to try again!

I have tweeted and emailed the developers with screen-shots of the error message, I've had no response at all yet.
